Are You an Underearner?
Did I get your attention with the “Underearner” term?
Have you read very much about “underearning” – what it means – just who is actually underearning? What about you? Are you earning an income that reflects your full potential and what you deserve?
Sometimes we get so caught up with how to manage all our finances, that we sometimes overlook a very basic consideration – are we bringing in the full amount of income we are truly capable of earning?
Personally, I know I’m great at managing my finances – the money I do earn. In fact, I’m proud to say I actually have used my own Budget Kit worksheets and have tracked spending for a good two decades – so I’m authentic with my message. However, I will admit, historically I have been an underearner, and my income seldom has reflected my potential.
What really got me thinking about all of this was this book that suddenly showed up in my mailbox a few weeks ago by author Barbara Stanny. A book I hadn’t ordered – it was a review galley copy by the same author who had written Secrets of Six Figure Women and Prince Charming Isn’t Coming.
Suddenly I found myself intrigued as I started to read Overcoming Underearning™ — A Five-Step Plan to a Richer Life. Hmm, even though I did not resonate as much with the “money fears” part, this underearning was a bit close to home for me, so I continued reading. I read enough to realize this would be a valuable book to share with my readers.
Using success stories, practical advice, inspirational quotes, and affirmations, Barbara’s book is not only a journey toward financial success, but to personal growth as well.
After defining and understanding the characteristics of underearners, Barbara delivers the process of Overcoming Underearning™ in five accessible steps which include exercises to help you understand and confront your old core beliefs and fears about money. Barbara concludes each step with journal exercises with questions designed to stimulate further self-examination.
Those of you who have started this new year with my Budget Kit workbook and confronted your financial picture will at least know where your money is going and have the logistical piece done for Barbara’s Step 1 – “Tell the Truth”. After going through the checklists, journal exercises, family history, personal inner conversations, and digging down to the roots of experiences and beliefs, you are bound to gain incredible insights from Step 1.
As stated in her book, “Clarity alone often generates change. The simple act of admitting what’s not working and analyzing why has been known to spontaneously motivate people to take action. When you combine financial clarity with personal insight, a powerful alchemy occurs. Counterproductive habits give way to enlightened choices.” Pg. 73
It is always a joy for me to witness how much our lives can change for myself and for my readers and clients when we are willing and courageous enough to be totally honest with ourselves.
As you can tell, I appreciate books that not only give you substantial information, numerous stories you can relate to, but meaty activities to make the process really work. This is one of those books I would encourage you to read!
When you order Overcoming Underearning™ I’ve arranged for you to have access to several financial bonuses.
